Münster - most livable city world-wide
Since October 2004 Münster has been able to call itself the city with the highest quality of life in the world. The Westphalian metropolis was the first German city to win the Gold LivCom Award in Niagara/Canada, taking first place in the category of cities with 200,000 to 750,000 inhabitants. In doing so, Münster was able to beat cities such as Seattle (USA), Okayama (Japan), Changshu (China), Posen (Poland) and Coventry (UK) in its first appearance in this international cities competition.
The city offers many benefits for families in particular. There is a good range of offers for looking after children, the city’s schools have an excellent reputation, and the standard of living is high. Münster is known as Germany’s cycling capital. There is an average of three bicycles for every inhabitant of the city. The ring road following the city’s fortifications round the old town is reserved as a highway for cyclists.
Of Münster’s 280,000 inhabitants around 55,000 are students, which means that the average age is very low. It also makes for an exciting cultural and sports programme.
